Marine services in Weymouth and Portland

Antifoul and Polishing

Both Ed and Pete the polisher can look after your hull's topsides with professionally applied antifoul and polishing that is hard to beat.

Marine Mechanical Services

For mechanics, Danny is your man. Dan has a wealth of experience with all types of petrol and diesel engines. It doesn’t matter if your pride and joy has a shaft, outdrive, saildrive or IPS, Dan always knows how to efficiently pick up a tool and get the job done in no time at all.

Marine Electronics

If it’s electronics you're after, John has a mind quite unlike any other and can identify a solution better than many. John can get hold of pretty much anything, but he also does some very competitive deals on B&G, Simrad, and Lowrance gear.

Yacht Delivery

My friend Ben has thousands of sea miles under his belt and has undertaken some impressive deliveries across the world, both under power and sail. Between myself and Ben, we can put together a crew and passage plan no matter where and when you need to move a boat.

Chandlery

There are two good chandlers on either side of the harbour. There are some crossovers, but often one will have what the other doesn’t.

Kingfisher Marine, run by Dave, is a good place for all your leisure essentials, including both Calor and Camping Gaz.

Steve, over at Bussells, runs more of a cosy Aladdin's cave. All sales come with a free dose of dry humour.

Rigging

Andy is known by many in the harbour for his eye for detail. Andy has prepared many of my friends' yachts for ocean passages, including replacing standing rigging, installing spinnaker gear, and generally making boats better than when they were first launched.

Annual Berthing

If you are a resident of Weymouth, the council-run marina is significantly cheaper than Boat Folk Weymouth Marina, however, there is a long waiting list. With this, you won’t get parking or easy access to a toilet block.

A few of my friends have boats at Nelson’s Marina. In reality, there are only six or seven berths, so moorings are hard to get. I can put you in touch with my friend Ashley if you want to try your luck and sit on the waiting list.

I berth Remedy at Weymouth Marina. I have a great location at the end of B pontoon; most of my friends are there, the staff are great, I can park my car, and they have a lovely plush toilet block with individual shower rooms.

Lifting and Storage

You have a few options over at Portland with either Clark’s Yard, the National Sailing Academy, or with Boatfolk in Portland Marina.

In Weymouth itself, you are a bit more limited. Dave at Kingfisher Marine can lift a small number of boats onto the quay each year, or if you’re lucky enough to be a member of Weymouth Sailing Club and have a sub-30ft yacht, you can get a very reasonable rate for lift and storage into the club boatyard.

Personally, I tend to use Boatfolk in Portland. They are a little pricier to lift, but you get six weeks of free storage with your annual berthing. The main advantage, though, is that you're not limited to fixed crane times, so I can be lifted, cleaned up over a week, and back in the water the following week, ready to enjoy some winter sailing.
